Hello there, and welcome to my website.
I’m an architect and engineer, with a doctoral degree in urban planning, and work experiences and collaborations in Asia and Europe (talks). During my academic career, I have studied and worked at University of Catania, Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, Aalto Foundation, University Technology Malaysia, Qatar University, University of Auckland, Lulea University of Technology, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and Aalto University.
Architecture and urban planning are those fields of knowledge that shape the environment in which we live and work. Small, medium and large cities are the engines of our economy but, if well designed, they are also places to meet other people, live close to nature, and create a better society . My aim is to develop knowledge to support a more inclusive, sustainable, and creative cities (exhibitions).
My original theoretical production (articles) includes novel concepts such as the intra-rural divides; transdisciplinary urbanism; predatory urbanism; and climate-sensitive urban design. My work has been featured in a range of media outlets, including the Venice Architecture Biennale, CNN International, and Nature. I am also an editorial board member for the international journal European Planning Studies, Frontiers in Sustainable Cities, and Urban Planning.
At LuleƄ University of Technology, research is conducted within clearly defined research subjects led by a Chaired Professor responsible for the development of the subject. I lead the architecture research subject which consists of about 30 researchers with a yearly turnover of c. 3 mEur (60% of which is research and the rest teaching). My research projects are funded, e.g., by the Qatar National Research Fund, EU Commission's framework programme, Swedish Energy Agency, Formas, and Vinnova (projects).
