Hello there, and welcome to my website!

I am an architect/engineer and urban planner educated and working in Europe with past work experiences in Asia.

Architecture is that field of knowledge that shapes the environment in which we live and work. Small, medium and large cities are the engines of our economy but, if well designed, they are also places to meet other people and create a better society. I believe that architecture research is indispensable to improve people's everyday life.

My work focuses on the nexus between resources and urbanization, urban experiments/labs, and participatory design/planning. My aim is to develop knowledge to support a more democratic, bottom-up, and creative green transition in cities.

My original theoretical production includes novel concepts such as the intra-rural divides; transdisciplinary urbanism; knowledge megaprojects; predatory urbanism; green resilience; and resourceful communities.

At LuleĆ„ University of Technology I lead the architecture research group which consists of about 25 researchers with a yearly turnover of c. 2.5 mEur. I have worked as PI and co-PI in a number of research projects funded, e.g., by the Qatar National Research Fund, EU Commission's framework programme,  Swedish Energy Agency, Formas, and Vinnova (total: c. 6 mEur as PI).

My work has been published in academic journals and books as well as popularized in other media outlets and events such as the Venice Architecture Biennale, CNN International, and Domus.

My background is in architectural engineering with a master thesis in metropolitan planning and then a doctoral thesis on rural urbanization both earned at the University of Catania. I have worked at UniversityTechnology Malaysia, Qatar University, University of Auckland, Lulea University of Technology, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and Aalto University.
